I took this survey in my IE class and yahoogroups. The groups’ names are ‘gayhumanrights’ and ‘gaydads.’ But I couldn’t any responses from them, so I analyzed this survey using only responses of classmates. I got 10 people as respondents.
Nationality:
American…one person
Japanese…9 people
Age:
19-year-old…3 people
20-year-old…3 people
25-year-old…one person
41-year-old…one person
(two people skipped this question)
The country of current residence:
Japan…9 people
US…one person
Are you interested in the issu of same-sex marriage?
75%...Yes
25%...No
Q3.How do you feel about same-sex marriage?
75%...support
25%...oppose
This result was the same with what I learned in the internet article. The article said young people tend to support same-sex marriage. The average of this survey was 22-year-old, so I think the tendency was right.
Q4. Please tell us the reason for your support or opposition.
Support: equal protection and equal rights for ALL families.
the marriage system should be free.
It’s their problem so we shouldn’t say it’s good or it’s bad
Oppose: Can’t they be just friend in the first place?
Q5.Dose your country allow same-sex marriage?
Yes...0%
No...75%
I don't know...25%
Most of the respondents were Japanese, so the result was almost ‘NO.’
Q6. If your answer to question 5 was 'YES', do you know when it was allowed?
US (government) don’t allow same-sex marriage but some states allow it.
Q7. If your answer to question 5 was 'NO', tell us why it's banned in your country.
Because of law
Because of religion
Because of national opinion
Q8. Are there any same-sex couples around you?
Yes...50%
No...50%
Q9. What comes to your mind first when you hear the term same-sex marriage? It is about...
A Law...50%
A children...0%
A lifestyle...50%
A religion...0%
Nobody gave the word ‘chidren’ and ’religion.’ The main cause is that nationality and age. The respondents were all young. I guess if there are mothers or fathers in them, ‘children’ was chose. And Japan has tolerant attitude toward religion compared to other religions, such as Christianity or Islam, so I think nobody gave the word.
Q10. If your child, relative, or friend told you that he/she wanted to have a same-sex marriage, what would you do?
support...50%
oppose...0%
talk it over...50%
I was surprised to see this chart because nobody oppose their familiar people’s same-sex marriage. I thought that it is good result because people who took this survey are in sympathy with this issue.
